Beach access is granted through a set of stairs, but there are also wheelchair-accessible entrances at several additional locations.
Carpinteria State Beach is located 12 miles south of Santa Barbara and offers an entire mile of shoreline for swimming, fishing, and tidepool exploring. From December to May, seals, sea lions, and gray whales frequent the area. An additional benefit of this park is the 1700-foot boardwalk; this structure provides easy access to the sand for people with limited mobility, baby buggies, and bicycles.
Refugio State Beach offers a more tropical vibe than El Capitan and Carpinteria. Palm trees dot the beach, and camping amenities like picnic tables and grills are plentiful. Campers will enjoy staying right on the beach at this sight, which is known for excellent coastal fishing. In addition, guided kayak tours are offered during the summer months.
Gaviota State Beach offers the best of the land and the sea. Inland, campers have access to hiking trails and views of indigenous vegetation. Popular hiking destinations include Gaviota Peak and Gaviota Hot Springs. The beach itself offers great swimming, diving, fishing, and surfing.
